Should I replace my boiler or switch to a heat pump?
It depends on how well insulated your home is, the size of your radiators, and space for an outdoor unit and cylinder. Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures, so they work best in insulated homes with larger radiators or underfloor heating. A modern condensing boiler is usually the cheaper upfront option. We can assess your house, calculate room-by-room heat loss and give you a like-for-like comparison of both.
Is there a grant for heat pumps?
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers a grant towards an air source heat pump for eligible homes, which has been £7,500. The installer applies on your behalf, and the property usually needs a valid Energy Performance Certificate. Check gov.uk for current eligibility before you plan around it.
How long does a boiler or central heating installation take?
A like-for-like combi boiler swap usually takes one to two days. Converting from a system boiler to a combi, or relocating the boiler, takes two to three days. A full central heating installation in an occupied three-bedroom house typically takes five to eight days.
Plumbing & heating FAQs
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?
Yes. By law, anyone working on gas appliances in the UK must be on the Gas Safe Register, and all our gas work is carried out by registered engineers. Ask to see the engineer's ID card on the day.
How long does a boiler last?
Most gas boilers last 10 to 15 years. Rising repair bills, falling efficiency and parts becoming hard to source are the usual signs it is time to replace.
Can you move my boiler?
Yes. Moving a boiler into a loft, garage or cupboard is common during renovations; we plan the flue route, condensate and gas supply to suit.
Do you install underfloor heating?
Yes. Wet underfloor heating suits extensions, kitchens and bathrooms, and pairs well with heat pumps because it runs at lower temperatures.
Do you fit bathrooms as well as plumbing them?
Yes. We handle the whole bathroom: stripping out, plumbing, electrics, plastering, tiling and fitting.
